Sponsorships, Christmas Food Baskets, and Health Checks
As the holidays draw near, we’re reflecting on how much your support makes possible—and how we can work together to meet the most important needs before the year ends. Right now, you can help our students and families in three special ways: through sponsorships, Christmas food baskets, and health checks.
Whether your heart is moved by helping a student stay in school, giving a family a joyful Christmas meal, or ensuring a child starts the year in good health, we invite you to join in.
1) Christmas Food Baskets – $50 per family
Every year we give each family a bundle of food at the annual Christmas party. In Kenya Christmas is celebrated by going to Church and having a special meal with family. Sometimes the children receive a gift of clothing.
Our families have come to count on receiving food so they can provide a meal for their children. The food is also much needed as the children are home during this time so are not eating at school. In past years, each bundle included maize meal, cooking oil, tea, sugar, salt, baking flour, and a large bar of laundry soap—simple items that make a big difference during the holidays.
Deadline to fund baskets: December 1. We’ll host our Christmas parties on December 13 and December 20, where families will receive their baskets and share a celebratory meal.
Your impact: A gift of $50 provides one full basket for a family. It’s an affordable way to put food on the table and smiles on faces.

2) Health Checks at Kenswed – $45 per child
Quality medical care is out of reach for most of our families. Routine physicals, dental cleanings, and eye exams are rare, but they matter. With our partners at Kenswed Hospital & Dental Clinic, we can provide each sponsored child with a comprehensive checkup: a full physical, an eye exam, and a dental screening.
Our goal is $45 per child for 80 students. If we can raise the funds by December 10, we’ll schedule the screenings over the school break so students start classes on January 5 feeling well and ready to learn. If funding takes longer, we’ll continue and complete medicals during the February midterm break.
Why it matters: Early detection keeps small issues from becoming big barriers. Good health helps children stay focused, confident, and in school.

3) Student Sponsorships – 4 Children Waiting
Sponsorship is steady love—it keeps a child in school and surrounds them with care. As we plan for January 2026, four students are waiting for committed sponsors.
Roseline, entering Grade 4 in January. A day student at a small private school near our HFLW home. From a single-parent family. Her former sponsor stopped mid-year; we stepped in so she could finish the year strong, but she needs someone to continue school in the coming year.
Teresia, entering Grade 6. Also a day student at a nearby private school, from a single-parent home. She too recently lost a sponsor. She is eager to continue her education in 2026 with a new sponsor.
Mary, entering Grade 6. Referred by her older sister Dorcas, who joined HFLW in Grade 5 and is graduating high school this year—the first in their family. Mary will transfer to a local boarding school in January to access stronger academics. She lives with her parents in a small farming village near the Kenya–Tanzania border.
Trevor, completed Grade 7. He has lived in a children’s home since age nine. A family once offered support but ended it suddenly, leaving him unsure about his future. Trevor says he is treated well at the home and has friends. He's hoping for a sponsor who will stick with him.
Sponsorship costs vary based on school type (day vs. boarding) and grade level. If one child is on your heart, email us—we’ll share details about their school, budget, and next steps. If sponsorship isn’t for you, a one-time or monthly gift still meets vital needs that sponsorship doesn’t cover.
